The Crooked Fingered Man
Have you seen this hand print? It can be found in the Chauvet-Pont-d’Arch Cave in southern France. The cave contains some of the best preserved figurative cave paintings in the world.
This particular hand print speaks to me, how so? Because of it’s crooked pinkie finger. Scientists have concluded that this person was a male approximately 6′ tall. What is also significant is that you can find this print further into the cave near other drawings. An identifier of sorts. Here we find evidence of a unique human 32,000+/- years ago.

I’ve seen the documentary on this cave entitled: “The Cave of Forgotten Dreams” by Werner Herzog. Wonderful discovery with beautiful drawings. So many years ago and yet it still speaks. Priceless!
I’ve seen this documentary also and was amazed at the detail in the drawings. That detail blows my previous understanding of these humans as being so simple, not so! This cave is 3 football fields long. I can imagine the artists as carrying their drawing supplies and torch to find the perfect rock wall to sketch. 🙂
Love how ED pinpoints this handprint. And I would have to agree that he was introducing himself to us. Also have to give kudos to LFH on alluding to this need in our psyche and for providing this site to begin compiling this treasury!
