What do you consider to be your most valuable assets? Some might say money, real estate or property. And that is true, unfortunately many have learned that those type of resources can be lost (see the recession of 2008). Think of other assets that you have acquired over the years. For instance: what of your values, belief system, or family history. These are the gems that are born from years of choices and challenges, treasures of a lifetime!
Those learning experiences can be of great assistance to those you leave behind. Don’t forget future family as well! I’ve personally enjoyed reading my mothers thoughts as she relates daily occurrences of early motherhood. I get to spend time with the late teenage version of her. Priceless!
Today there are more options than diary notations. For instance, you could tell your stories with the use of your phones video or voice recorder. There are a number of apps available to use as well.
Life is hard and days will come when having these life learned treasures to access will make any challenge smaller. How wonderful it will be coming from someone you know and love!
So pass them on, especially the successes and the failures. Let them know who you are today, your childhood, your young adult life. Tell them the stories of your family, and ask them to carry on traditions and beliefs that are important to you.
When you pass on your lifetime of valuable experiences, your family gains a sense of worth and a strength of character to handle what the future brings.
