For All Time: A Complete Guide to Writing Your Family History, Charley Kempthorne, 1996
When the poet and singer create music, when the scientist contemplates creation. I’m the handprint on the wall of caves long ago lived in. All this calls you back and becons you to remember. How can their ‘life’s’ value be accessed and utilized? Today I’m a ghostly whisper, mostly forgotten. But I live when the archaeologist unearths the art I created or the home I once lived. When the child asks: “What was Grandpa & Grandma like?”
I hear it everywhere, that’s how it expresses itself to me now. Sometimes it comes in a short sequence of musical notes, mostly I hear it in audible words. It’s bite size for me and I’m glad otherwise I’d fall into despair. This is a call out to take the time to listen, even if its for just a few moments. I’m talking about memories of lives lived. Just about any song, writing or picture calls out! Don’t stop at the song or words or pictures because at its core is a beating heart, a once living soul. I was here, living and breathing, “Remember Me!” Tell of how I added to this great gift we call life, take the time to record and archive the good and the bad, the certain things and the dreams. This is the ground we stand on, its record strengthens weak knees and binds the brokenhearted.
