What Makes Me Valuable?

What makes my life valuable to me are the things I have managed to learn, what I am now capable of doing, who I have succeeded in becoming. There is also the relationships I’ve formed, and the artistic expressions I’ve birthed. If you value those things you’ll value yourself. Some may say that tends towards arrogance but it actually has nothing to do with pride or ego. It’s the ability to take joy in one’s very being, the gift of existence.

Understanding your self worth isn’t easy though. Why? Because it takes an honest personal assessment and because life is so fast and all-encompassing. Who can find the time? Thankfully life has a way of forcing the issue in the form of constant challenges. This is your opportunity to see yourself!

I’ve learned that my mind is super active but easily distracted, hard to accomplish tasks when it fights to go another direction. It is difficult to formulate help processes when you don’t know what’s wrong?  life is so consuming.  I’m a visual guy so I’ve taught myself to ‘see’ how life works. That in itself (for me) has opened up so many exciting possibilities. My brain doesn’t work with 100% efficiency so I’ve taught myself to ‘route’ around areas of my brain that don’t work so well to get me where I want to be. I wish I had learned this earlier, it would have calmed my anxiety. That knowledge alone is worth passing on or paying forward (if you want we could discuss this in another blog?).

It is the peace of mind I’ve achieved, the
Think also of an old, antique car. Certainly, it is not optimal in many ways, and it never will be. It can either be a meaningless piece in someone’s investment portfolio, or it can be a treasured reminder of experiences past, with which its owner would never part for any amount of money. Which type of car would you rather be, to yourself?
I am sentimentally attached to this body—this self. It means a great deal to me, regardless of who else values it and to what degree. It is my most sincere of all wishes, dear reader, that you too can learn to see yourself in such a light. As the saying goes:
“No matter where or how far you flee from the world, you must always take yourself with you.”
Be your own valued companion. In that, you have true worth.

I’ve concluded that my potential is more than I presently am. With that said I value the accomplishments till now, but want to reach higher! But how? In my case I was able to exercise many aspects of my talent when a need arose.

The need: After my Mother’s death, I didn’t want her value to disappear. So the challenge became, how can I use what I’ve learned to find a solution? When you begin to formulate the immenseness of this challenge and choose to pursue this invention, that is where the adventure begins. This is similar to Dorothy’s journey in the ‘Wizard of Oz’. There is so much to learn and so much decisions to be made that have no template to use for help. I found myself ‘wading into the waters unknown’. I pictured my goal and an expanse of deep dark water between us. I’m standing on the solid ground of knowledge I currently have but its not enough to get me to my goal. So I research for the memories of knowledge I do have and use it to take the first steps toward my goal. Kind of like a small island the size of my feet appear that I can jump to as I endeavor to make headway towards my goal. Each subsequent foothold appears only after each effort I make to learn a new tool to use to get me closer.
